Sweet Baby Brynn

Born September 2, 2024. On Labor Day. Haha, how poetic. Scheduled to be delivered by C section on September fourth, both sets of grandparents gathered for the last supper. On numerous occasions we counted off how many hours before you were to be born. I think you were listening and saying, “I don’t think so”, because your Mommy’s water broke around 6 PM. You were born before midnight. WOW!
The Miracle of our first grandchild.
The odds for life are not in anyone’s favor. I’m in awe of life’s improbability. There are so many factors and events that have to align perfectly for an individual to come into existence. Our parents had to meet, then we the grandparents had to meet. Then the parents themselves had to meet. The chance of any two people meeting are incredibly slim. Not every meeting leads to a relationship, let alone conception.
Everyone of our ancestors had to survive wars, disease, and natural disasters long enough to reproduce. When all these factors are combined, it is estimated the odds of you being born are 1 in 400 trillion. As you can see Brynn’s existence is a miracle of epic proportions. It’s a humbling thought and a beautiful reminder of how precious life is.
When Jennifer and Kristen entered this world, our life changed forever. We didn’t realize the human heart had this much capacity for love. Ours hearts were literally bursting. From the moment I held them both, I knew and understood they were miracles. Beautiful lights full of promise and love. Over the years they have grown into people we are endlessly proud of: Strong, kind, and full of heart.
Now seeing Jennifer become a mother fills us with even more joy, admiration, and pride. Watching her nurture her own child, just as we nurtured her, is one of the greatest blessings of our lives. It’s a reminder of the love that binds our families and the legacy she is building.
Jennifer and Kristen are our pride, our joy, and our heart. We are so grateful for the day they were born and for every moment since. Life couldn’t get any better! Or could it?
Our miracle Brynn became our first grandchild on September 2, 2024. Wow, we get to feel this exhilarating love all over again without all the responsibilities. We can’t wait to be the best grandparents we can be. Becoming a grandparent brings the joy of welcoming a new generation into the family, paired with a unique and less demanding role as a parent. This is a new kind of love. Pure, unconditional opportunity to bond with Brynn in a way that’s free from many of the responsibilities and stresses of parenting.
Being a grandparent offers us a second chance to enjoy the moments we may have missed with our own children due to the demands of work and life challenges. It’s a time to be more present, patient, and playful. We will have an opportunity to teach and share family history, traditions, and life lessons. From teaching skills on how to garden, bake, play sports, or whatever her interests become.
We will embrace our supportive role. Unlike being a parent, where the focus is on discipline and decision making, as a grandparent we can focus on supporting our children as parents and offering guidance when asked. This will be an enjoyable relationship with our grandchild. Becoming a grandparent gives us even more purpose and meaning to life. It’s a reminder of the circle of life and deepens our appreciation for family and legacy.
Our aspirations for Brynn is for her to be heroic in her life, so she can show up everyday and flourish. We don’t mean heroic like a super hero with a cape ( but I wouldn’t put it past her ). What we mean is for her to have confidence to always know her self worth. The wisdom to chase her dreams and to understand that setbacks are only learning experiences. To fully understand how truly and deeply loved she is. The gift to always see herself through our eyes, so she sees how special she is.
